That was the first song we wrote for the Bangarang!! record.
We had just moved to Berlin and were kind of torn and twisted inside.
We had no jobs, barely any friends, or any plan whether this was a right thing to do or not.
We´ve left many precious things behind!
I remember us being very galled upon us and everything around.
We had built borders and boundaries against ourselves and others.
It took us long to write songs again.
Eventually we started writing that song which in fact is a song about national borders and nation states and how much we thought that this is bullshit.
After we had finished that song (and we thought it is a blast, probably the angriest song we have ever written) we felt sort of a relief that eased our frustration.
Thant song tore down our inner borders.
about the words...
Diogenes of Sinope- "I am a citizen of the world"
lyrics
Our entire world's divided into an us and you
but actually this planet belongs us all in equal shares
but we sold it out, privatized our common land
and made sure that nearly no one fucking cares
Fuck your flags
They just breed hate
Fuck your flags because...
The greed of former kings and queens formed relatives to enemies
and split the whole humanity into antagonized territories
so still we`re stuck and do believe we had to conform to this reality
and that it'd be necessary to repeat our previous history !!
Forgotten brothers and sisters across the borders and overseas
We came to notice our fake differences and ignore our similarities
These “others” they’re us coequal people just like you and me
Each country a cage made to foment rage
towards our own race so we're not feeling safe
and find cohesion only in blind patriotism
security in armed and fenced in nationalism
That's how the big men maintain their control
